When Fiona Pearson first met Daisy, the border collie was a failed sheepdog in rural Ireland, deemed unfit for farm work. But rather than a problem, that turned out to be the beginning of an unexpected journey.
In 2023, Pearson and her husband traveled from Nottingham to Ireland after hearing about a working sheepdog who needed a new home. "It was clear that she was not cut out for working and wanted to be a lady of leisure," Pearson recalls. "She was really affectionate and I could tell that she loved being around people."
Unlike most border collies, known for their endless energy and need to chase, Daisy is the opposite. "She is happy to cuddle up next to you," Pearson says. "She brings a smile to people's faces whenever we're out."
With one blue eye and one brown, and a striking coat of black, white, and caramel, Daisy has become something of a local celebrity. In March, she modeled at a life-drawing class in a coffee shop. "She loved it. She was quite giddy, as usual," Pearson says. The rotating models included several other dogs, and the resulting artwork was a hit.
Daisy also played a starring role in Pearson's wedding that same month. Though she stayed home during the ceremony in Ireland to avoid the stress of travel, her photo appeared on coasters and glow sticks at the evening party. "All our friends and family know how important Daisy is to us," Pearson says.
Initially concerned about how a farm dog would adapt to city life, Pearson says Daisy has fit right in. The two are inseparable. "I teach yoga and she sometimes comes to the classes with me. In fact, clients now ask me to bring her. I think they are more interested in her than me."
From a sheepdog who couldn't herd to a beloved companion, yoga attendee, and art model, Daisy has proven that sometimes, failure is just a different kind of success.
