Jason Statham has built a career on playing tough guys, but his role as Frank Martin in the Transporter franchise remains a fascinating outlier in the action genre. Frank exists somewhere between the reluctant, peace-seeking martial artists popularized by Jackie Chan and the unhinged, trigger-happy action heroes of the 1980s. He might be perfectly capable of taking down a dozen goons armed with nothing but a necktie, but he also values his friendships and occasionally attempts to de-escalate violence before throwing punches.
While the Transporter films are largely celebrated for their flashy aesthetics, spectacular car chases, and inventive stunt work, Transporter 3 holds a unique distinction. It is simultaneously the most financially successful and the worst-reviewed film of the original trilogy. Now, fans and action junkies alike can form their own opinions, as the film officially became available to stream for free on Tubi starting July 1.
Frank Martin is a highly skilled professional driver who lives by three ironclad rules: never change the deal, never exchange names, and never open the package. Transporter 3 opens with Frank attempting to enjoy a quiet vacation in the French Riviera. His peace is violently shattered when a colleague—who had taken over Frank's latest job—crashes a car directly into his house. The driver is soon killed by an explosive bracelet rigged to detonate if he strays too far from the vehicle, leaving behind a mysterious Ukrainian passenger named Valentina.
Before long, Frank is forced against his will to finish the deadly delivery. Fitted with his own explosive bracelet, he must drive Valentina and an unknown package across Europe from France to Hungary. The high-speed journey drags Frank into a dangerous international blackmail plot where the clock is always ticking.
The film's chilly critical reception was largely driven by a few polarizing elements. First-time actress Natalya Rudakova struggled with a demanding, intentionally abrasive role as Valentina, which proved grating for many viewers. Additionally, the explosive-bracelet premise forces much of the movie's action to remain claustrophobically confined to the interior of a moving car while Frank's French police friend, Tarconi, tries to unravel the conspiracy from afar. Despite these speed bumps, Transporter 3 delivers exactly what Statham fans want: fast cars, slick martial arts, and a hero who refuses to hit the brakes.
