Your Name is coming back to theaters to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The 2016 animated film from director Makoto Shinkai (Weathering with You, Suzume) received widespread acclaim upon its release and is still considered a masterpiece of animation. The 4K remaster will begin playing in theaters on Aug. 14.
Distributor GKIDS made the announcement in a June 6 post on X, just a day after the company made a strong showing at this year's Anime Expo. GKIDS has established itself as a leading name for international distribution of Japanese films and shows. The company also frequently puts out physical editions of its library. Most notably, GKIDS won an Oscar in 2024 for Studio Ghibli's The Boy and the Hero n.

Your Name (2016) | Trailer
The official description of Your Name from GKIDS is as follows:
One morning, rural schoolgirl Mitsuha and city kid Taki awaken to discover that they’ve switched bodies. The total strangers struggle to navigate each other’s lives, walking tightropes of intimacy and distance. But when they finally resolve to meet, the true nature of their connection threatens to seal their fate.
Your Name is a modern classic of animation and romance. The story of Mitsuha and Taki is rendered with stunning animation and incredible voice performances (both in Japanese and English). The movie's music is also particularly noteworthy. Japanese rock band Radwimps provides the soundtrack of an intertwining love story that feels truly special.
Details on which theaters will show the 4K remaster are not available yet, but you can sign up to be the first to know on GKIDS' website. To coincide with the movie's tenth anniversary, GKIDS is also releasing new Blu-ray and 4K UHD Steelbook editions of Your Name. Both are up for pre-order right now and come with a long list of bonus features including a behind-the-scenes feature and an interview with Mokoto Shinkai. If you can't wait for August, Your Name is currently streaming on HBO Max and YouTubeTV.
