The provincial government of Ilocos Norte has teamed up with renewable energy firm ACEN to launch a groundbreaking solar energy program that requires no collateral from participating households. The initiative aims to make solar power accessible to more residents, especially those who cannot afford the upfront costs of installation.
Under the program, homeowners can install solar panels without providing any form of collateral, reducing the financial barrier to adopting clean energy. ACEN will handle the installation and maintenance, while households pay through an affordable installment plan over several years.
Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc emphasized that the program aligns with the province’s goal of promoting sustainable energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. “This partnership will empower our communities to generate their own electricity, lower their bills, and contribute to a greener future,” he said.
ACEN President Eric Francia noted that the collateral-free model is designed to include low-income families who are often excluded from such initiatives. “We want to ensure that the benefits of renewable energy reach every corner of Ilocos Norte,” Francia added.
The program is expected to roll out in pilot barangays within the next few months, with plans to expand province-wide. Interested residents will undergo a simple application process, and selected households will receive a customized solar system based on their energy needs.
