At least 12 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, according to local health officials, in what Hamas described as a collapse of the internationally-backed ceasefire.
The deadliest attack struck a residential building in Gaza City, killing eight people, including three children. Another four were killed in separate strikes in central and southern Gaza.
Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem accused Israel of violating the truce, stating: "The international community has failed to uphold the ceasefire, and the blood of our people is on their hands."
Israel's military said the strikes targeted Hamas infrastructure, including rocket launch sites and weapons storage facilities, after what it called "repeated violations" by Palestinian militants.
Tensions have been escalating over the past week, with sporadic rocket fire from Gaza and Israeli reprisals threatening the fragile calm.
The ceasefire, brokered by Egypt and the United Nations in May, had largely held for over a month, bringing a pause to the deadliest fighting in years.
Medical sources in Gaza said the death toll could rise as rescue teams continue to search the rubble.
