Liverpool Legend Sir Kenny Dalglish Reveals Cancer Treatment After Social Media Slip-Up

Scotland, Liverpool, and Celtic icon Sir Kenny Dalglish has announced he is undergoing treatment for cancer. The 75-year-old legend shared the news after an accidental social media post forced him to go public.

"I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer," Dalglish wrote on social media. "Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well."

He initially intended to keep the diagnosis private but inadvertently revealed it in a "inadvertent social media post." Dalglish added, "Ideally, this would have remained private because that's the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand."

The former striker is Scotland's most capped player, with 30 goals in 102 appearances—a joint national record with Denis Law. During his club career, Dalglish scored 167 goals in 320 games for Celtic between 1969 and 1977, winning four league titles and four Scottish Cups.

He joined Liverpool for a British record fee of £440,000, spearheading a golden era that included three European Cups and eight First Division titles across 515 appearances. Dalglish later served as player-manager at Liverpool, winning two FA Cups and guiding the club through the aftermath of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.

His managerial career also included stints at Blackburn Rovers—where he won the Premier League in 1995—as well as Newcastle United, Celtic, and a second spell at Liverpool in 2011-12.

Liverpool released a statement saying: "The support, best wishes, and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are, and will be, with Sir Kenny and his family. The club would also like to underscore his request for privacy moving forward."

Former Liverpool teammate Ian Rush posted: "The King is one of the strongest and most positive people I've ever known. If anyone can face this battle with courage and determination, it's King Kenny. We're all behind you."

The news comes a day after another Liverpool great, Kevin Keegan, revealed he has stage four cancer.
