The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the motorists involved in a viral multiple-vehicle collision that occurred along the Taguig-Makati boundary, following widespread circulation of dashcam and bystander footage online.
In a statement released on Friday, the LTO said it has issued show-cause orders to the drivers of all vehicles caught in the chain-reaction crash, which involved at least four cars. The agency is investigating potential violations of traffic laws, including reckless driving and failure to maintain safe distance.
"We have already identified the drivers from the viral videos and official reports. They are required to appear before our office and explain their actions," LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II said.
The incident, which took place on Wednesday evening near the corner of Ayala Avenue and EDSA, temporarily snarled traffic in the busy business district. No serious injuries were reported, but the crash caused significant damage to the vehicles involved.
Netizens shared clips showing a white SUV rear-ending a sedan, which then triggered a domino effect involving two other vehicles. The footage has garnered over a million views on social media platforms.
The LTO reminded the public that distracted driving and tailgating remain leading causes of road accidents in the country. "We urge all motorists to always be alert and follow traffic rules. One mistake can lead to a chain of collisions," Mendoza added.
The summoned drivers face penalties ranging from fines to possible suspension of their driver's licenses, depending on the findings of the investigation.
