MacIntyre Eyes Scottish Open Repeat While Embracing Fiery Nature

Robert MacIntyre is focusing on sharpening his iron play and securing another Scottish Open victory as he balances professional ambitions with new fatherhood.

The 29-year-old Scottish golfer, currently ranked 12th in the world, plans to return to The Renaissance Club in East Lothian this July, where he triumphed in 2024. MacIntyre believes his overall game has improved compared to last season, though he acknowledges specific areas needing work.

"Statistically, it's better than last year," MacIntyre explained. "My iron play hasn't been where it needs to be, but my driving and putting are the best they've ever been. If I can find consistency in the middle part of my game, I'll be in a strong position."

He emphasized the significance of the Scottish Open in his career, recalling his narrow loss to Rory McIlroy in 2023 before his subsequent victory.

"Outside the majors, this is the tournament I've always wanted to win," he said. "When Rory beat me, I wondered how many chances I'd get. Thankfully, I got another one. My game suits the course, and having home support is incredible—I'm excited for another shot."

Parenthood has reshaped MacIntyre's priorities, leading him to set more pragmatic goals, such as qualifying for the PGA Tour Finals at East Lake in August.

"Life has completely changed," he noted. "There are different priorities now—it's about finding a new balance between work and family. Some might think my goals aren't ambitious enough, but with everything that's happened, it's about perspective and managing things well. My partner Shannon has been amazing, allowing me to practice hard while she handles much of the load at home."

MacIntyre also addressed his on-course temperament following criticism of his behavior at the Masters, where he made a gesture after a quadruple bogey and was heard swearing on microphones. He received a "telling off" but described his actions as "pretty tame" and acknowledged that his fiery nature is ingrained.

"I know I'll probably get caught saying the odd bad word every week," he admitted. "It's part of who I am. I try to limit it, but it's unlikely to change completely."

With a promising start to the season and three majors ahead, MacIntyre remains optimistic about his prospects, blending competitive drive with personal growth.
