Massimo De Lutiis Commits to Australia with Three-Year Deal, Ending Ulster Speculation

Massimo De Lutiis has ended months of speculation about his international future by signing a three-year contract to remain with Australia and the Queensland Reds.

The 22-year-old tight-head prop, who had been linked with a potential move to Irish province Ulster, has now committed his rugby future to Australia through the end of the 2029 season.

De Lutiis, a 126kg forward born in Sydney, revealed that family considerations and the opportunity to represent Australia in next year's home World Cup were decisive factors in his choice.

"I had a lot to weigh up. I spent a good week or two going through it and it was a bit stressful," said De Lutiis, who has yet to make his Test debut for the Wallabies. "I definitely feel like a weight has been lifted with this decision. Now I'm locked in, I can focus on the next three years in Australia."

The promising prop played nine Super Rugby Pacific matches for the Reds last season but has been sidelined this term due to a hamstring injury. Despite this setback, his potential remains highly regarded within Australian rugby circles.

Queensland Reds coach Les Kiss, who will take over as Wallabies head coach later this year, praised De Lutiis's commitment and character.

"Despite challenges with injury, he's a committed professional and he's only going to get better and better," Kiss said. "He's an important and respected figure in the Reds locker room."

De Lutiis previously represented Australia A against England A in November 2024, showcasing his potential at the international level. His decision to remain in Australia provides stability for both his club and national team aspirations as they build toward the 2025 Rugby World Cup on home soil.
