President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has set a July deadline for the commencement of operations of the Sunog Apog pumping station, a critical infrastructure project aimed at mitigating flooding in the National Capital Region. The project, located in Valenzuela City, is part of the government's broader flood control program.
During an inspection of the facility, Marcos emphasized the urgency of completing the pumping station to protect communities from recurrent flooding, especially during the rainy season. The pumping station is designed to drain excess water from low-lying areas into Manila Bay, reducing the risk of floods that have historically plagued the region.
"This is a priority project. We need to ensure that by July, the Sunog Apog pumping station is fully operational," Marcos said. He directed the Department of Public Works and Highways and other concerned agencies to expedite remaining works and address any bottlenecks.
The Sunog Apog pumping station is one of several infrastructure projects under the government's Build Better More program. Once operational, it is expected to benefit thousands of residents and significantly reduce flood damage in nearby communities.
