Singapore's Solar Giant Unveils Ambitious 250-MW Renewable Powerhouse in Bataan

A Singapore-based renewable energy developer is making a bold move into the Philippine market with plans to construct a massive 250-megawatt solar park in Bataan province.

Solar Origin 1 Corp., an affiliate of Singapore's Enertans Global Pte. Ltd., has submitted a proposal to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for a solar facility spanning 280 hectares across the barangays of Bamban and Maite Hermosa. The company aims to complete construction within just 12 months once regulatory approvals are secured.

"It supports the country's efforts to accommodate increasing demand while diversifying the energy mix and reducing dependence on conventional fuel sources," the company stated in its proposal.

The project represents a significant investment of approximately ₱2.4 billion, covering both land acquisition and development costs. Solar Origin 1 plans to connect the solar power plant to the grid through the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority's 230-kilovolt substation.

This development comes at a crucial time for the Philippines' energy landscape. Luzon, the country's largest island, accounts for over 70% of national power demand and continues to drive economic growth. The solar park is positioned to help meet this rising electricity need while supporting the government's renewable energy targets.

The Marcos administration has been actively encouraging private sector investment in renewable technologies, including solar, hydropower, geothermal, wind, and biomass. The Philippines aims to increase renewables' share in the electricity generation mix from the current 25% to 35% by 2030.

Enertans Global, the Singaporean parent company, specializes in developing and financing large-scale renewable energy projects across Southeast Asia and Europe. Their Philippine venture aligns with the Department of Energy's ongoing green power bidding program, which is preparing its seventh round focused specifically on solar technology.

If approved, the Bataan solar park is expected to operate commercially for more than 25 years, contributing to the country's sustainable energy transition while addressing Luzon's growing power requirements.
