Real Madrid is the sole club not participating in any aspect of the initiative.
La Liga director Jaime Blanco explained the reasoning behind the unique event: "This allows us to bring the past into the present while continuing to build experiences and strengthen the legacy that emotionally connects with supporters. Presenting this collection during Spain's leading fashion week is the perfect platform to project that identity beyond the field and position soccer at the heart of the cultural and creative conversation."
The retro kits were officially unveiled on March 19 at Madrid Fashion Week, highlighting a deliberate fusion of football heritage and contemporary fashion. Each design draws inspiration from iconic looks throughout each club's history, paying homage to cultural identities and longstanding fan traditions.
Beyond the jerseys, the nostalgic theme extends throughout the matchday experience. Referees will wear special vintage-style uniforms, television broadcasts will feature throwback graphics reminiscent of decades past, and a retro-style match ball will be used across all participating fixtures.
While La Liga pioneers this coordinated approach among Europe's elite football competitions, other sports have embraced similar concepts. Australia's National Rugby League and Australian Football League have previously held dedicated retro rounds, demonstrating football's growing fascination with nostalgia.
This season has seen multiple clubs tapping into their histories. Italian giants Juventus recently unveiled a fourth kit inspired by their 1996-97 season jersey, while Liverpool released a retro collection featuring designs dating back to the 1960s.
