At least 23 people lost their lives and roughly 70 others were wounded when a suicide bomber targeted a passenger train in Quetta, Pakistan, on Sunday morning. The attacker detonated an explosives-laden vehicle near the railway line as the train passed, causing two carriages to overturn and catch fire. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, leaving behind twisted wreckage.
A separatist group claimed responsibility, stating the attack was aimed at security personnel believed to be aboard. Local reports indicate the train was carrying army personnel and their families traveling for Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Rescue crews and armed security forces worked to pull victims from the damaged cars, while nearby buildings and parked vehicles also sustained damage. Over 20 of the injured remain in critical condition.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the bombing as a "cowardly act of terrorism" and vowed to continue the fight against terrorism.
