The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has completed an emergency inspection of approximately 800,000 trees across the city, following recent incidents of falling trees in Kinuta Park. The inspection revealed that about 14,000 trees at metropolitan facilities and other locations have abnormalities such as broken branches or other damage.
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike announced that the city will prioritize the replacement of damaged trees, emphasizing the need for a speedy response. "We will proceed with replanting with a sense of urgency," she stated.
The comprehensive check was launched after a series of tree falls raised public safety concerns. The affected trees are located in parks, along roadsides, and on other metropolitan properties. Authorities are now working to schedule replacements and ensure the safety of residents.
