Coventry City chairman Doug King has dismissed concerns over Frank Lampard's future at the club, despite the head coach being linked with a return to Chelsea. Speaking after the Sky Blues secured the Championship title with a 5-1 thrashing of Portsmouth, King emphasized that fans should not fret over unconfirmed speculation.
Lampard, who took over at Coventry in November 2024, led the team to promotion and the league title in his first full season. His success has naturally drawn attention from former club Chelsea, where Liam Rosenior was recently sacked. However, King remains unfazed by the "merry-go-round" of football management.
"He's done a fantastic job; it's been an incredible 18 months for us and for him," King told BBC CWR. "I said to him, 'Do not underestimate how difficult what you've achieved is to do.' He's done huge things in his playing career, but to get out of this league as champions without a parachute payment is a huge achievement."
King revealed that Lampard is in "a happy place" at Coventry and deeply connected to the city. "You can see how emotionally connected he is with the city and what promotion meant to him. It doesn't mean there won't be a staggering bid in the summer, but I can't control that. I just think he's happy, I'm happy, everybody's happy."
Coventry have been planning for the Premier League since October, when they topped the table. King warned against reckless spending: "Simply throwing money at the challenge would be a mistake."
