The Soft Pink Truth, the electronic project of Drew Daniel from the experimental duo Matmos, has released a new album that feels both spontaneous and deeply healing. Titled Shall We Go On Sinning So That Grace May Increase?, the record weaves together hypnotic beats, ambient textures, and a sense of hopeful melancholy that makes it a perfect antidote to the chaos of modern life.
Daniel describes the album as a response to the pressures of the contemporary world, but instead of anger or despair, he channels a kind of meditative grace. The title itself, borrowed from a theological question, hints at the album’s exploration of redemption and renewal through music.
The songs unfold slowly, with layers of synthesizers and processed vocals creating a lush, immersive soundscape. Tracks like “We Are All Made of Stars” and “The Weight of the World” build from simple motifs into sprawling, emotional journeys. There’s a sense of improvisation—of capturing a moment in the studio—that gives the album its raw, live feel.
“I wanted to make something that felt like a gift,” Daniel said in a recent interview. “Music that could exist as a space for people to breathe, to think, to maybe even heal a little.”
Shall We Go On Sinning So That Grace May Increase? is out now via Thrill Jockey Records. It’s a reminder that even in dark times, art can offer a quiet, persistent hope.
