UK's Deputy Ambassador to US Abruptly Departs Post Without Explanation

James Roscoe, the deputy to Britain's ambassador in Washington, has left his role suddenly, with the Foreign Office declining to provide any reason for his departure.

Roscoe held one of the most senior and high-profile positions in the British diplomatic service, serving as second-in-command at the embassy. He also stepped in as acting ambassador for several months after Lord Peter Mandelson's dismissal last year, and was considered a potential candidate for the top job before Sir Christian Turner was appointed.

During his tenure, Roscoe played a key role in organizing President Donald Trump's state visit to the UK and King Charles III's recent visit to the United States. The British Embassy has refused to comment further on his exit, and Roscoe could not be reached for comment.

Before his Washington posting, Roscoe served as the UK's ambassador to the United Nations and as communications chief for the late Queen Elizabeth II. He also served as chief press officer in Downing Street under Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. His earlier diplomatic assignments included posts at the UN, Sierra Leone, and Iraq.
