From February 27 to March 15, 2026, the atrium of SM J Mall in Cebu will be awash in pink, hosting an immersive celebration of Japanese culture known as Sakura Fest. The event transforms the space into a vibrant hub featuring cascading cherry blossom displays, authentic culinary offerings, and interactive cultural experiences.
The festival was officially launched with a private preview for media and special guests, including the Consul-General of Japan in Cebu, Yudai Ueno, who highlighted the event's cultural importance. It opened to the public later the same day.
At the center of the festivities is the Sakura Dream Dome, a stunning floral installation that illuminates daily at 2 PM, 4 PM, and 7 PM, casting a soft pink glow throughout the venue. Visitors are also invited to participate in the Sakura Wish Tree tradition, writing personal messages beneath the artificial blossoms in a reflective nod to the seasonal Japanese custom.
The festival showcases a curated collection of Japanese-inspired brands and pop culture elements. Highlights include Anime Lane for anime merchandise, Bakeology and The Puff Bakery for Sakura-themed pastries, and food stalls like Sushi Star and Tsuki Gyoza offering authentic Japanese street food, from sushi and gyoza to viral treats like ten yen coin desserts and tanghulu.
Beyond shopping and dining, Sakura Fest 2026 features scheduled cultural activities. A Kimono Meet on March 8 celebrates traditional Japanese fashion, while a creative workshop titled "Pause & Paint: Petals & Perspectives" on March 14 invites attendees to explore art inspired by the transient beauty of cherry blossoms.
Organizers describe the event as more than a seasonal decoration—it's a community-focused initiative designed to bring Japanese culture and lifestyle closer to local shoppers through immersive, engaging experiences that celebrate flavor, creativity, and connection.
