Northamptonshire Animal Sanctuary Faces Eviction, Seeks £150,000 to Buy Land

An animal rescue centre in Northamptonshire has launched an urgent appeal to raise £150,000 to purchase its land after the landlord put it up for sale. Redhead Rescues Animal Sanctuary in Finedon, which is self-funded and run by volunteers, now faces eviction if it cannot meet the target.

Founder Teresa Underwood opened the sanctuary in 2020 and has dedicated her life to caring for animals. The site is used to assess and exercise rescue dogs, as well as for grazing horses, donkeys, and goats. Underwood described the potential loss as "huge" and said the team would find "something else" if the fundraising goal cannot be reached.

The sanctuary recently spent £9,000 on fencing to ensure animal security, and most of the animals that arrive require medical treatment, neutering, and surgery. The ongoing cost of living crisis has led to more people surrendering their pets, while veterinary costs have soared. Underwood told BBC Radio Northampton that she works 24/7 and that the bank account is "pretty much empty."

To raise money, the centre is hosting a dog show and car boot sale on 24 May at the Woodford community and sports club, near Thrapston. Donations and charity event proceeds are primarily used to cover vet bills, which Underwood says are "through the roof."

Anyone wishing to support the sanctuary can contribute to its fundraising appeal or attend the upcoming events.
