A recent educational masterclass in Manila brought together medical experts, beauty professionals, and consumers to champion a science-first approach to skincare. The event, held during Women's Month, focused on moving beyond product promotion to foster genuine understanding of skin health.
Medical professionals provided detailed insights into common skin concerns. Dr. Mara Capiroso explained that conditions like melasma, pigmentation, and premature aging result from multiple factors including UV exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation, and skin barrier damage. She advocated for a structured care sequence: repair, strengthen, and protect.
Dr. Finesse Evangelista highlighted the importance of active ingredients such as NMN, PDRN, niacinamide, panthenol, retinol, and bakuchiol. "Synergy and consistency determine outcomes," she emphasized, underscoring that how ingredients work together matters more than individual components.
Grace Lee, a certified Korean skin educator, introduced the concept of "intentional layering"—a routine of hydrate, treat, and seal designed to align with the skin's natural biological processes. Makeup artist Florence Vergara demonstrated how proper skin preparation fundamentally changes makeup application, allowing cosmetics to enhance natural features rather than mask imperfections.
"We are not here to promote products—we are here to promote understanding. When people understand their skin, they make better choices. That is where true confidence begins," said Jun Gamo, head of marketing for the organizing company.
Catherine Andres-Gamo, who led the program, described the goal as creating "a space where science meets self-care and knowledge empowers confidence."
The event featured live demonstrations, interactive discussions, and a Q&A session. A raffle prize offered a "K-Beauty Innovation Experience" in Seoul. Global brand ambassador Katrina Santos reflected on the philosophy behind her involvement: "It wasn't about endorsement—it was about alignment with science, consistency, and long-term skin health. True luxury is not excess. It is intention."
Organizers announced that this masterclass is part of a broader educational initiative that will expand through future workshops, digital campaigns, and partnerships, including plans to launch a dedicated training institute. The overarching mission is to equip Filipino consumers with evidence-based knowledge, shifting the focus from temporary fixes to sustainable skin wellness.
