Tokyo and Manila Toast 70 Years of Friendship at Emperor's Birthday Celebration

Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya welcomed dignitaries to Manila's Grand Hyatt on March 3 for a dual celebration: the 66th birthday of Japan's Emperor and seven decades of diplomatic ties between Japan and the Philippines.

In a video address, Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa P. Lazaro conveyed official greetings, while Undersecretary for Policy Leo Herrera-Lim led a ceremonial toast. The event drew a distinguished crowd of Cabinet officials, legislators, diplomats, business leaders, and Olympic champion gymnast Carlos Yulo.

Ambassador Endo emphasized the robust partnership spanning political, economic, cultural, and sporting spheres. "Our shared tapestry of friendship must endure as a legacy for future generations," he remarked, expressing confidence in the relationship's continued growth.

The evening commenced with renditions of both national anthems by the Annex Chorale Ensemble, a joint performance by vocal and conducting groups from the University of the Philippines College of Music.
