Heavy Rains Swamp Parts of Quezon City; PAGASA Says Wet Season Hasn't Begun Yet

Heavy downpours on Tuesday led to localized flooding in several areas of Quezon City, causing inconvenience to motorists and residents. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) clarified that the rainfall is not a sign of the onset of the wet season.

Flooding was reported in low-lying streets and underpasses, with water levels reaching ankle to knee-deep in some locations. Traffic slowed down as vehicles navigated the flooded roads, and some commuters were seen wading through the water.

PAGASA explained that the heavy rains are due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting the region. Despite the volume of rain, the agency said it is not yet the official wet season, which typically begins in June. The state weather bureau continues to monitor weather conditions and advises the public to stay alert for possible flash floods.

Local authorities have deployed response teams to assist affected residents and manage traffic. Quezon City's disaster risk reduction and management office reminded residents to avoid crossing flooded areas and to report any incidents to emergency hotlines.
