Samsung has announced a new flexible display technology for foldable phones, designed to be slimmer, more durable, and with a less visible crease. Called Flex Titanium, the display tech incorporates lessons learned over seven generations of foldables and is set to debut in the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8.
The new panel uses a titanium-reinforced substrate and an advanced layer of ultra-thin glass, reducing the display thickness while improving resistance to impact and pressure. Samsung claims the proprietary structure minimizes the center crease that has long been a visual drawback of foldable screens.
"Flex Titanium represents a leap forward in foldable durability," a Samsung spokesperson said. "We've addressed key pain points like crease visibility and long-term reliability without compromising on slimness."
Early tests indicate the display can withstand more than double the number of folds compared to previous generations. The technology will first appear in the Galaxy Z Fold 8, expected later this year, with potential expansion to other devices.
Industry analysts see this as a critical move to maintain Samsung's lead in the foldable market, where competitors like Motorola and Xiaomi have been narrowing the gap.
